Henry Knapp Skelding Williams and his second wife, Mildred "Millie" Anna Williams nee McQuillan (also, Milton), collected 17th century Dutch and Flemish paintings, 18th century English masters, bronzes, tapestries, statuary, and period furniture.
Williams made his fortune in the wholesale lumber (Ichabod T. Williams & Sons) and marble business (William Bradley & Sons).
The Williams’s were the founders of the Mildred Anna Williams Fund and the Henry K. S. Williams Trusts in The New York Community Trust.
