James Clair Flood was an art collector and merchant (saloon keeper), and made his fortune off of the Comstock Lode.
Flood owned work by, among others, J B C Corot, Charles Daubigny, Leonard Hermann, Van Marcke de Lummen, Mihaly Munkacsy, and Jehan Georges Vibert.
