In 1961, Anderson moved to Paris, where with Jack Mayer he opened the Galerie Anderson Mayer on the city's Left Bank.
David Anderson worked with his mother, Martha Jackson, and took over the gallery after her death in 1969.
Anderson moved to Buffalo in 1988, remotely operating his New York Gallery which his closed shortly there after. In 2000 Anderson gifted his Buffalo location to the University of Buffalo.
