Albert John "A. J." Kobler was a newspaperman (publisher of The Daily Mirror, president of The American Weekly, and editor of Hearst publications), real estate developer (820 Park Avenue), and fine and decorative arts collector.
Kobler owned tapestries (16th c. Brussels), late gothic and Renaissance art and French furnishings. His collection included work by, among others, Bernard van Orley, Sir Henry Raeburn, and Augustin Bernard.
Kobler and his wife, Mignon (nee Sommers, 1882–1943), had two children: A. John Kobler and Jason S. Kobler. In 1943, Mrs. Kobler married another Hearst executive, Edward A. Westfall (1877–1958).
