Canessa's collection included Gothic and Renaissance furniture, important Italian Renaissance bronze, stone & marble sculpture, primitive paintings & early wood carvings, rare Greek & Greco-Roman sculptures & pottery.

His collection sold in New York via the American Art Association and Andersen Galleries in 1930.
