historical notes George Crapo Willson was an art collector, businessman and manufacturer with industrial and commercial interests, a founder and benefactor of the Flint Institute of Art and the first President of its Board of Trustees.

Willson’s collection included work by American artists and included work by, among others, Frances Abigail Spencer and Ralph Albert Blakelock.
