historical notes Felix Isman was an art collector, real estate speculator, and theatrical producer.

Isman owned paintings by, among others, Charles-François Daubigny, J B C Corot, Jean Charles Cazin, Harpignies, Eugène Delacroix, Jules Dupre, Eugène Isabey, Jozef Israëls, Gustave Courbet, Jean Francois Millet, Maris.

According to the New York Times, in 1911, Isman sold his collection of paintings via the American Art Association so that he could focus on collecting old master prints and drawings. Isman’s old master collection included work by, among others, Rembrandt, Albert Dürer.

Isman was married three times: first, in 1906 to the actress Irene Fenwick (1887–1936), they divorced in 1909 (in 1923, she married Lionel Barrymore, 1878–1954); his second marriage was to actress Hazel Irene Allen (1896–1967), aka "Pinkie" or "Phyllis Alden", they divorced in 1914 (she also married, William Barton French and later Stanely Kenneth Davies); finally he married Helen Gaubis (b. 1904) in 1930, they had a daughter Harriet Isman (b. 1933).
