historical notes John Duff was a Boston art collector. According to The Art Treasures of America, Duff owned works by, among others, Jehan G. Vibert, William Morris Hunt, Adrien Moreau, E M Bannister, and Ernest W. Longfellow.

Some of the works of art from Duff’s collection inherited by his family daughter, Sibbel A. Duff Bullard (1842–1906), were auctioned via the Metropolitan Art Association at Anderson Galleries on May 19 and 26, 1914.

Duff was married to Keziah Cobb Duff (1816–1882), and they had three children: John Robertson Duff, Jr. (1891); Sibbel A. Duff Bullard, 1842–1906 (m. William Merrill Bullard, 1842–1916); and William F. Duff.
