Evelyn Susan Mayer was born in Cincinnati, OH on July 20, 1889. Mayer studied at the University of Wisconsin, Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia University, and with Ralph Johonnot. She taught art at the University of Utah (1913-1922) and then moved to California where she was on the faculty at the California College of Arts & Crafts (Oakland) and San Francisco State Teachers College in the early 1930s. In 1945 she moved to Redlands, CA where she remained until her death on May 23, 1955. Mayer collected works from Die Blaue Vier and was friendly with Galka Emmy Scheyer and other artists from the group. |
