Through the American Art Association, Bishops art collection (paintings, European rugs, bronzes, prints and engravings) was sold in 1935, his stamp collection in 1938, and his book collection in 1938 and 1939. Bishops art collection included work by, among others, John Hoppner, Dürer, Rembrandt, Giovanni da Bologna, Bernardo Rossellino, Joseph Pennell, and Anders Zorn.

Bishop served as the president of the Aero Club of America, and was a member of the Knickerbocker, Metropolitan, Turf and field, and Grolier Clubs.

Bishop attended Columbia University earning an A.B. in 1891, an A.M. in 1892, a Ph.D. in 1893, and an LL.B. in 1894. He married Amy Bend (b. 1870) in 1899, and they had one daughter, Beatrice Bishop Berle (1902–1993).

Interlaken was one of Bishop's homes in Lenox, MA -- in 1927; it was razed to build Ananda Hall which was demolished in 1940.

In 1922, Bishop gifted bric-a-brac, curios, and relics to the Berkshire Museum. Among other items, the gift included hunting knives, swords, spears and javelins from tribes of South America, East and West Indies.
