John Hobart Warren was an iron manufacturer, collector, and member of the Union League, Metropolitan and Church Clubs.
He was married to Harriette Mott Warren, nee Coulter, and after her death the Warren Collection was left to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1923).
According to The Art Treasures of America, Warren owned works by G. H. Boughton, A. Cabanel, G. David, E. De Beaumont, E. Detaille, N. Diaz de la Pena, J. Dupré, E. Fromentin, W. Goodall, A. Guillemin, E. Isabey, C. Jacque, C. Lasche, H. Merle, A. Moreau, Juliette Peyrol-Bonheur, F. Roybet, and F. Ziem.
According to the New York Times (February 8, 1923) article, Warren also owned Flemish Tapestries.
