historical notes Edward Schenck was a New York City auctioneer. He opened his first auction house at 10 Wall Street in 1851 and retired a few months before his death in 1895.

Schenck was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, the Holland Society, and connected with the old Twelfth Regiment of militia.


His father was Peter Henry Schenck and his mother was Harriet Courtney Schenck. His son, Frank H. Schenck (1858-1900) was also an auctioneer who worked for his father and continued running the business until his death in 1900.
