historical notes Jeannette Genius McKean (1909–89), was an artist, interior designer, businesswoman, civic leader, philanthropist, art dealer, and the founder of the Morse Gallery of Art, Winter Park, FL.

Together with her husband Hugh F. McKean (1908–95, m. 1945), McKean formed a collection of work by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Their collection formed the basis for the Morse Gallery of Art which was initially housed on the campus of Rollins College (now located off campus at 445 North Park Avenue). The gallery was named after her grandfather, the industrialist Charles Hosmer Morse (1833–1921, Fairbanks, Morse and Company).

In 1945, Jeannette created the Center Street Gallery in downtown Winter Park that sold work by local artists, including her own. The gallery closed in 1994.

In 1957, she created the Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation, in memory of her mother, to support her charitable concerns, including Rollins College.
