Born on September 1, 1934 in Los Angeles, Donald Factor, the grandson of cosmetics legend Max Factor Jr., was an art collector, critic, poet, editor, and filmmaker. Donald's early collaboration on the literary magazine Nomad with Anthony Linick, featuring notable authors like William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, also published Factor’s “Four Artists,” which focused on Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, Jim Dine, and Claes Oldenburg and was the first essay on what would become known as Pop Art. While working as a marketing executive for Max Factor & Company cosmetics, Factor and his first wife, Lynn, assembled an exquisite collection of art, housing works by Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Ed Ruscha, and others. Factor was also featured in Morgan Neville’s documentary The Cool School (2008), about the rise of the Los Angeles contemporary art scene. |
