Founded in 1968 by Elmore Coe Kerr in partnership with the collector Fred Woolworth.

Coe Kerr, as he was known, had been a senior partner of Knoedlers and was related to the Knoedler family. The Coe Kerr gallery originally represented Andrew Wyeth, but broadened its scope to include 19th and 20th century American paintings under the influence of Warren Adelson, who served as director from 1974 to 1990.
Closed in 1993.
