Charles H. Schwartz, nickname "Bunny" or "Bun", was art collector (according to the Hartford Courant, his mother's family founded the paper-goods company Kimberly-Clark Corp).
After his partner, Nathaniel "Robbie" G. Robertson, died the remainder of the Schwartz estate was bequeathed to the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum of Art as a charitable trust to establish an endowment for the acquisition of European art from the 18th century and earlier. The gift totaled $9.6 million.
While Schwartz was a premium member of the Wadsworth Athenaeum, during his lifetime he had not made donations past his membership fee ($2,500). His collection of Old Master paintings and European decorative art was sold at auction after his death.
