Frederick H. Billings was lawyer, Financier, art collector, and the President of the Northern Pacific Railway.
Billings collected paintings by the Hudson River and Barbizon Schools. He owned work by W. Bougereau and C. Chaplin, Narcisse-Virgile Diaz de la Peña, Jules-Louis Dupré, Charles Emile Jacque, Robert Crannell Minor, Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, David Johnson, Thomas Prichard Rossiter, John Frederick Kensett.
