historical notes Hans Peter Kraus was a book dealer and collector (books, photography, Illuminated manuscripts, maps, etc. . .).

Kraus first opened a shop at 21 East 57th street, married Hanni Zucker in 1940, and then in 1945 moved the shop to 16 East 46th Street. After his death, first his wife and then his children ran his store until 2003 when it closed.

Kraus owned the Bettmann Photo Archive which was sold to Corbis Corp. in 1995, for approximately 16 million dollars.
