historical notes
|
Former art dealer and founder of Portland’s Fountain Gallery (1961) Arlene Schnitzer, née Director, is also an art patron and collector.
While the gallery was formed to showcase artists in the Pacific Northwest, Schnitzer and her husband, Harold Schnitzer (1923–2011), collected Chinese art from the Neolithic to the modern periods. The collection’s strengths are in ceramics from the Han (206 BCE–220 CE) and Tang (618–907) dynasties.
Their son, Jordan Schnitzer (1951–), is also an art collector.
