historical notes Elkan Silberman was an art dealer. In 1938, he joined his brother, Abris Silberman (1896–1968), at the New York branch of the family’s gallery, E. and A. Silberman Galleries. The gallery was first located on 57th Street, also operated at 578 Madison Ave, and located later at 1008 Fifth Ave.

He and his brother helped form the art collections of G. H. A. Clowes (1877–1958), Booth Tarkington (1869–1946), and L. M. Rabinowitz (1887–1957).
