historical notes William Loring Andrews was an art collector, bibliophile, librarian and trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Andrews gave ninety-two etchings by contemporary artists to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1883.

Andrews' collection included work by, among others, Charles–François Daubigny (1817–1878), James McNeill Whistler (1834–1903), Charles Meryon (1821–1868), Frederick Walker (1840–1875), Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851), Sir Farancis Seymour Haden (1818–1910), Eugène Delacroix (1798–1863).
