historical notes Thomas B. Musgrave was a banker (Musgrave & Co.) and art collector.

Musgrave’s collection included work by, among others, Jules Breton, Thomas Couture, J. G. Vibert, Jules Dupré, Jean-François Millet, Jean-Léon Gérôme, Georges Michel, Adolph Schreyer, Charles Jacque, J. J. Henner, Samuel Coleman, Regis Gignoux, Sanford R. Gifford, Daniel Ridgeway Knight, Harry Chase, and Albert Beirstadt. The collection sold at the Fifth Avenue Art Galleries on April 7th, 1891.

The Jean-Léon Gérôme painting, “Last Tragedy” (now known as Jérusalem, also called Golgotha, Consumatum est; and La Crucifixion) is owned by the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Musgrave was a member of the Union League Club and was the Director and Treasurer of the Academy of Music. He was married to Frances "Fannie" Eleanor Jones Musgrave (1845–1918, M. 1965) and they had one son Dr. Percy B. Musgrave (1872–1922) of Boston.
