historical notes As an art dealer, James St. Lawrence O’Toole, was associated with Jacques Seligman, 1927–1936; then [Paul] Reinhardt Gallery from 1936–1939; and in 1939 he opened his own gallery at 33 East 51st Street in New York City.

In 1929, O’Toole married the opera singer, Diodata Dandi (1896–), who was from Venice, Italy. They spent half of the year in Venice and the other half in New York City.
