historical notes Mary Margaret 'Moo' Anderson, née Ransford, was a California art collector.

Anderson, and her husband, Harry (1922–2018), also known as "Hunk," formed a collection of 20th century American art, with an emphasis on the New York School and Bay Area Figuration. Their collection encompassed art movements of Abstract Expressionism, Color Field Painting, Post-Minimalism, California Funk, and Light and Space.

Artists represented in the collection include Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, Agnes Martin, Franz Kline, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, David Park, Mark Rothko, Frank Stella, and Wayne Thiebaud.

The Andersons gave works of art to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University. The couple, with their daughter Mary Patricia "Putter" Anderson, pledged 121 works of art by 86 different artists to Stanford University.

In addition to art, Mary Anderson gave Stanford the bulk of her research library, which featured art books, catalogs, and ephemera related to the art, artists, and movements represented in the collection.

Art from their collection was sold at a Sotheby's auction on June 29th and 30th, 2020. The auction included work by Henry Moore, David Smith, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Kenneth Noland, Richard Diebenkorn, and David Park.
