historical notes Albert Gallatin was an archeologist, writer, and collector of ancient and eastern art. His great grandfather, Albert Gallatin (1761-1849), and cousin, A. E. Gallatin (1881-1952) were also art collectors.

Gallatin gave the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Gallatin was a member of the Century Association, a trustee of the Archeological Institute of America, and a fellow in perpetuity The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
He married Margaret Hoffman Hackstaff in 1906, and they had four children: Mrs. Gallatin Cobb, and Mrs. William Aiken, Margaret H (m. Dr. Clement B. P. Cobb), Phyllis (m. William Aiken), Albert and James.
