historical notes Robert E. Holmes is an art collector with an eclectic collection of over 800 artworks, specializing in African-American, Latino, and gay art. He began buying art while studying at the High School of Music and Art in New York and continued collecting throughout his career as a lawyer and music industry executive. Works from his collection, which includes Steven Williams, Roberto Gil de Montes, Bob Thompson, Gronk, Elizabeth Catlett, Charles White, James Morphesis, Kenneth Matthew, Carlos Almaraz, Deni Ponty, Miguel Angel Reyes, Raul "Duro" Cordero, and Dan McCleary, among others, have appeared in shows and galleries throughout the United States and Europe, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Mexican Art in Chicago, Harvard University, The USC Fisher Museum of Art, East Los Angeles College, Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, Sony Pictures Entertainment, North Carolina A&T State University, among many others.
