historical notes Based in Los Angeles, Troy Carter is a well-known entertainment industry figure, having managed Lady Gaga in her early career and now running Q&A, a music distribution and management platform. He is also a trustee of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and a board member of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Carter started collecting art in the 2010s and has gained attention in the art world. His collection includes pieces by African-American artists like Glenn Ligon, Sam Gilliam, Charles Gaines, Lorna Simpson, Theaster Gates, and Lauren Halsey, as well as works by Robert Rauschenberg and Damien Hirst. During the Covid-19 lockdown, he continued to grow his collection, which now comprises several hundred pieces. Carter has said that he plans to display his collection publicly in the future.
