Collector, archaeologist, and critic of Italian art, was a former mayor of Englewood, New Jersey, and chairman of the Visiting Committee of the Department of Art and Archaeology of Princeton University. Platt was married to the former Ethel A. Bliss.
Platt collected early Italian paintings and sculpture. The collection included work by Giovanni di Paolo, Vecchietta, and Jacopo della Quercia.
