historical notes Ben Heller was a real estate developer, textile tycoon, art collector (modern, Asian, and African art), dealer and patron.

Heller and his first wife, Judith Ann Goldhill Heller (d. 1970), were early patrons of Jackson Pollock, Barnett Newman, Franz Kline, and formed one of the most important private collections of abstract expressionists. They also owned work by, among others, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell, Ad Reinhardt, and Arshile Gorky. He and his second wife, Patricia Rosenwald Sedgwick, sold much of the collection.

Heller had two daughters, Patti Adler and Deedy Mishler, a son, Woody, and three stepchildren, Nikko Sedgwick, Rob Sedgwick, and Kyra Sedgwick.
