Art gallery and bookshop; Washington, D.C. Bader died in 1994. Operated by Franz Bader under various names, including Franz Bader Gallery, Franz Bader Inc., and Franz Bader Gallery and Bookshop.
Bader came to the U.S. in 1939 and managed Whyte's bookshop, where he introduced an art gallery featuring local artists. In 1953 he established his own gallery at 1705 G St. N.W., continuing to show local and young artists, as well as contemporary prints. The gallery moved in Sept. 1964 to 2124 Pennsylvania Ave. and in Oct. 1979 to 2001 Eye St., where he remained until his retirement in 1985.
(The gallery continued, moving to 1701 Pennsylvania Ave. ca. 1987, and in 1990 to 1500 K St. until its final show in 1995).
