John Gellatly was a businessman, art collector and patron.
The Gellatly collection consisted of oil paintings, water colors, pastels, pottery, porcelain and jewelry. The collection included work by, among others, James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834–1903), John Singer Sargent (1856–1925), Albert Pinkham Ryder (1847–1917), Thomas Wilmer Dewing (1851–1938), Abbott Handerson Thayer (1849–1921), Childe Hassam (1859–1935), and John Henry Twachtman (1853–1902).
Gellatly donated the collection to the National Gallery of Art in 1929.
