Benjamin collected books, historical papers and paintings.
Benjamin married Anne Engle Rogers in 1886, one of three daughters of the late Henry Huddleston Rogers, a founder of the Standard Oil Company.
He belonged to the Union League, Ardsley Country of Adsley-on-Hudson, NY, and the Belle Haven Beach Club at Greenwich.
