Collector, patron, cotton manufacturer, and printer.
Borden collection included work by George Romney, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Gainsborough, Hopner, Lawrence, Corot, Rembrandt, Daumier, Dupre, Diaz,
Constable, Troyon, Delacroix, Detaille, Breton and Alma Tadema.
In 1865, he married his relative, Harriet M. Durfee of Fall River, with whom he had seven children. He died in 1912.
Borden lent artwork to the Fulton-Hudson Celebration; Aelbert Cuyp, Man Eating Mussels, art market 1909. He also lent Caspar Sibelius, by Frans Hals, Castle Kostverloren, by Meindert Hobbema, Pieter de Hooch's The Music Party, Ruisdael's The Castle, Terborch's Lady Pouring Wine, and Velde's Calm Sea.
Borden was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, Down Town Association, Jekyll Island Club, Merchants Club of New York, Metropolitan Club of New York, New England Society, New York Yacht Club, Players Club of New York, Republican Club of New York, Riding Club of New York, Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, Skull and Bones, South Side Sportmen's Club, Union League Club of New York and the Whist Club of New York.
