The Gelman's collected 20th-century European and Mexican art. Mrs. Gelman had continued to add to the collection after her husband's death in 1986.

The Gelman collection included work by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, Gunther Gerszo, Maria Izquierdo, Leonora Carrington, Carlos Merida, Carlos Orozco Romero, Juan Soriano, Agustin Lazo, Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Bonnard, Derain, Miro, Dali, Tanguy, Balthus and others.

Natasha bequeathed some work from their collection to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The remaining works from the Gelman Estate are overseen by the Vergel Foundation (New York and Mexico City).
