historical notes

George Hibbard, an investment broker, began collecting Tibetan art during a world tour in 1961. His interest developed into a hobby and field of study. He traveled extensively in Asia and Europe to advance his knowledge of Tibetan history and culture, and presented many papers on the subject at national and international meetings.
He established contacts among other scholars, joined the Tibet Society of the U.S., and worked to provide assistance to Tibetan refugees.
