historical notes Francis Augustus Lathrop was an art collector, artist, advisor and illustrator.

Lathrop's collection was sold through Anderson Gallery on April 4, 1911. His collection included Tintoretto's "Mother and Child," Diaz de la Pena's "The Quary," Hobbema's "Landscape in Holland," and work by Corot, Delacroix, Dupré, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Gainsborough, La Farge, J Alden Weir, Japanese prints, cartoons and other art objects.

Lathrop was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Society of American Artists, and the National Academy of Design.
