and photographs, including some of the organizers and participants of the 1939 World's Fair "New Americans" exhibit, of Dada artists taken before they fled Germany, and of Steinitz's European trips. Among the artists represented are El Lissitzky, George Grosz, Man Ray, Hans Nitzschke, and Amedee Ozenfant. She became friends with Kurt Schwitters, a Dada artist and fellow writer, whom she collaborated with on several adult and children's books.

descriptionRenger-Patzsch mentions an exhibition of his work in Berlin. He plans to visit Steinitz in Hannover to see her recent photographic work, and appreciates that Steinitz understands his esthetics. He complains about the difficulty finding a publisher for a photograph titled Landstrasse. The letter ends abruptly (fragment?).

Biographical or Historical Notes:
The German photographer Albert Renger-Patzsch (1897-1966) is associated with the art movement Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity).

Notes:
Kate Steinitz was a German avant-garde artist and photographer, also art historian, journalist, author, and art collector.

Letter dated 1954 Feb. 15 from Amsterdam mentions his winning a prize at the 2nd São Paulo biennale, remarks on the appearance of two essays on Kurt Schwitters in "Das Kunstwerk" and asks if a special collection of Leonardo da Vinci has been established.

Letter dated 1960 Feb. 1 from Ulm mentions the publication of his book "Vordemberge-Gildewart : eine Bild-Biographie" and a visit from Buckminster Fuller to the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm in June 1959.
