titleOffice book of 'Household Words", 1850-1859.
repositoryPrinceton University
descriptionOffice book, almost entirely in the hand of W. H. Wills, assistant editor of Dickens's magazine called "Household Words," which ran from Mar. 30, 1850- May 28, 1859. Records for each issue the date, serial number, author of each contribution (the contributions are anonymous in the periodical itself), its title, length in columns, price paid, date of payment, and memorandum. Dickens is always referred to as "Mr. C. D." and the record shows that he was not paid separately for his many contributions, which were doubtless regarded as part of his editorial work.
