| description | Correspondence; sketches; a painting; business and school records; photographs; writings; poems; research material for an intended book on De Forest; drawings; legal and financial documents; exhibition catalogs and announcements. REEL 700: Materials gathered for a book on De Forest (never published) planned in conjunction with his exhibit at the Dilexi Gallery, San Francisco, in April 1969. The book was a joint venture of De Forest, David Zack (editor), and James Newman (sponsor of the project and owner of the Dilexi Gallery) and was intended to contain "memories" of De Forest in the form of poems, drawings, or comment by other artists and friends. Included are: 12 letters regarding the project; a form letter asking for recollections; a list of people contacted; and the contributions of 57 people, including drawings by Robert Arneson, Wayne Thiebaud, and William T. Wiley. REELS 1646-1647: Business and personal correspondence with Allan Frumkin, H. Marc Moyens, Peter Saul, Hassel Smith, Darthea Speyer, David Storey, and David Zack, 1967-1979; 8 poems, 1974; address lists; membership cards, 1975-1977; drawings by S. Clay Wilson, 1969, and H. De Arnherst, 1973; receipts, credit vouchers, 2 loan agreements to the San Francisco Museum of Art; 32 photographs of De Forest, his friends, pets, and works of art, 1926-1961; 12 exhibition announcements and catalogs and miscellaneous printed material including postage stamps, 1963-1978. UNMICROFILMED: Letters to De Forest from Wally Hedrick, Max Morris, Hassel Smith, Wanda Westcoast and others, 1948-1973; school transcripts, 1952-1959; a teaching contract with Yakima (Washington) School District, 1959; a school notebook, 1957; an essay "The Vision of Paolo Uccello" by De Forest; an essay and poem by David Zack; a painting for Apple Week Art Contest of Yakima Valley, 1947; 2 ink sketches, 1951; clippings; exhibition announcements and catalogs for De Forest and others, 1952-1973, and other printed material; photographs and color transparencies and negatives of De Forest and of his work, of Jeremy Anderson's work, the Dilexi Gallery, and colleagues Richard Brodney, Relf Case, and Bart Perry, 1952-1957. Also included is "Drawing Number 6" by De Forest in colored chalk, pentel, and charcoal on paper, twice inscribed in the upper left in blue and black ink "Roy De Forest/Drawing/1971".
