| description | Correspondence, estate papers, accounts, etc., 1838-1853, of the Gibbs family of Boston and Rhode Island, chiefly pertaining to the disposition of family property and the management of the estate of Mrs. Mary Channing Gibbs, wife of George Gibbs (1735-1803), mother of William Channing Gibbs, and grandmother of George Gibbs (1815-1873) of New York City. Correspondence also includes 70 letters to Mr. Sohier from William Channing Gibbs, dated 1839-1853, relative to the settlement of his mother's estate in Rhode Island, and 25 letters, 1844-1848, addressed to Mr. Sohier from George Gibbs of New York City similarly concerned with the settlement of his grandmother's estate.
