descriptionThe papers represent several generations of the Armstrong and Neilson families from the 18th century to the 20th century These families lived mainly in New York City, New York State and Elizabethtown, New Jersey. Prominent family members are Lt. Charles Marshal Armstrong, USN; David Maitland Armstrong, Consul to Rome and artist; Helen Neilson Armstrong (Mrs. David Maitland Armstrong); Rosetta Armstrong; Margaret Armstrong (Mrs. William Salter); Margaret Marshall Armstrong (Mrs. William D. Armstrong); William D. Armstrong; and Margaret Ann Fish Neilson (Mrs. John Neilson Jr.). The remainder of the papers consists of financial documents, land and legal papers, ephemera, photographs and an engraved plate.
