Among the 90 artists represented, several were prominent portraitists and landscape painters of their time, including Emil Carlsen, Henry Mosler, John Francis Murphy, Walter L. Palmer, Henry R. Poore, and Irving R. Wiles.

William Clausen established his galleries in New York City in 1889, in part to encourage American collectors to buy works by American artists.
