repositoryThe Getty Research Institute
descriptionMost of the letters were written in late summer 1943 to either Paul-Louis Mergier or his wife, Madame Mergier-Bourdeix, in response to requests to exhibit with them in the upcoming season.

Those accepting the offer include Jean Moreau, Met de Penninghen, Alfred le Petit, René Durey, Paul Charlemagne, Paul Petit, Abel Bertram, Luigi Corbellini, Jacques Thiout, François Quelvée, André Foy, Jacques Lagrange, André Bizette Lindet, Siñes, François Martin Salvat, Jean Francis Laglenne, and Guillaume de Bricqueville.

Among those declining the offer are René Guillemart, Georges Rohner, Maurice Asselin, Marcel Gromaire, and Constant le Breton. Those artists who are unsure include Jean-Gabriel Daragnès and Emile Bouneau. Often the artists suggest others to form a group show; those suggested include Jean Venitien, Jean-Claude Aujame, Georges Pacouil, Germain Delatousche, Christian-Hugues Caillard, Edmond-Amédée Heuze, Anders Osterlind, René Collamarini, Paul Peterelle, Apelles Fenosa, Rebull, Honorio Garcia Condoy, Constantin Terechkovitch, and some of those listed above.
Other galleries mentioned are those of Charpentier and Menard, la Galerie Renou et Colle, and la Galerie d’Anjou. Emile Sabouraud, François Quelvée, and Guillaume de Bricqueville express particular concern that artists exhibiting with them be interested in similar issues. Also included are notes with prices for subscriptions for a musical concert to benefit artists and a business letter (1968) from R. Walker.
