descriptionMartha Abbott is speaking about her father, A.W. Foster, who was born in 1850 and who died in 1930. He was a successful businessman and broker, a philanthropist and founder of the Bank of San Rafael which subsequently became the Crocker Bank. He was President of the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad and Regent of the University of California for 27 years.
He was also an art collector, and one of the founders of the Mount Tamalpais Military Academy.
