Legal documents and certificates including the original certificate of incorporation (1890), deeds, by-laws and their amendments and changes to the present day, meeting minutes including a complete set of minutes of the full board meetings as well as of every permanent and standing committee, directories of trustees and Governing Members, annual reports, and correspondence relating to the governance of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as well as the personal and business records of the members of the Board of Trustees. Also includes substantial material relating to the financing and building of Orchestra Hall in 1904 and a sizeable collection of the papers of former Chairman of the Board, Louis Courtenay Sudler (1966-1976, chairman emeritus 1976-1992). Other board chairmen represented include George Adams, Bryan Lathrop, Eric Oldberg, and Edward L. Ryerson, Jr. Selected corporate records are closed for a 30-year time period.
