descriptionThe collection contains items related to the history of Richmond and Wayne County, Indiana (1825-1916). Topics include horse racing in Richmond ca. 1900, and the 1899 Richmond baseball team.

Also included is Nixon's correspondence with artists and dealers concerning his art collecting. Papers of the Stubbs, Menzies, and Johnson families include family histories. Also included are the papers of a Wayne County leather worker, 1825-1836. The bound volumes are mostly from Wayne County, and include account books from farms, stores, a physician, and the White Water Canal. The remainder are school record books, school and math workbooks, scrapbooks, minute books, and an autograph book.

Biographical and Historical Note
Nixon was a collector of art and rare books, collecting primarily the works of Indiana artists and books and documents related to Indiana history. Nixon was born in Newport, Ind. and later settled in Centerville, Ind., where he worked as a butcher and baker.
