descriptionThe papers consist of diaries (two volumes) describing Louis Ehrich’s junior and senior years at Yale College and his participation in the life of the Jewish communities of New Haven and New York. Also included in the papers is a scrapbook of memorabilia of his student years at New Haven Hopkins Grammar School and Yale College, 1865-1869.

Biographical/Historical note:
Louis Rinaldo Ehrich received his B.A. from Yale in 1869. He was a member of the dry goods firm of Ehrich Brothers in New York City from 1870-1886. Between 1889-1905, Ehrich served as vice-president of the Colorado Springs and Manitou Street Railway Company, the Manitou Mineral Water Company, and the Colorado City Land and Improvement Company. He was president of the Ehrich Galleries in New York City. Louis Ehrich died in London in 1911.

descriptionApprox. 1,450 items, including letters, pamphlets, brochures, reports, newspaper and magazine articles, photographs, calling cards, poems, notes and memorabilia.

Note(s): The chest, a lead-lined, steel box measuring 35 x 22 x 17 in., has a printed dedication on the front: "To the Citizens of Colorado Springs of the Twenty First Century. To be opened after midnight, December 31st A.D. 2000."

The chest was opened on January 1, 2001 at the Charles Leaming Tutt Library.

New items sealed in the chest for the citizens of 2101.

Historic documentation of life at the turn of the 19th century created by residents of Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1901 for the citizens of 2001.

Under the direction of Louis R. Ehrich, a prominent 19th century businessman, the items were sealed in a chest which was stored in various buildings on the Colorado College campus until the official opening in January 2001.
