description | The Louis Fiske Hyde Collection contains research materials and drafts assembled by Hyde during the preparation of his book, History of Glens Falls, New York and its settlement, published in 1936. Louis F. Hyde died in 1934 and William H. Hill revised and edited the book for publication. In addition to drafts of the book, the collection contains extensive correspondence by Louis F. Hyde with libraries, historical societies, book publishers, members of long established Glens Falls families, and other researchers, especially Marion Chitty and William H. Hill. There are also manuscript writings and notes on the history of Glens Falls that are identified as not having been used for the book. Bio/History: Louis Fiske Hyde (1866-1934) was Vice President of Finch, Pruyn, and Company in Glens Falls, New York. He served on the boards of numerous commercial, civic, educational, and charitable organizations. He was also much interested in the history of Glens Falls and its surrounding area. He and his wife, Charlotte Pruyn Hyde (1867-1963), were art connoisseurs and accumulated a vast collection of noted art works that now forms the Hyde Art Collection at their former home in Glens Falls.
