[Additional Eilshemius material appearing on this reel unrelated to the gallery has been described and housed separately under William Schack and Eilshemius.] REEL NY59-5: 216 index cards from the Gallery listing information about Eilshemius' works, including titles, prices and dimensions. REEL 4781: Eilshemius related material, including 12 notecards regarding his exhibitions from 1933-1957; a clipping, 1935; 2 exhibition catalogs, n.d. and 1932; and photographs, including 3 of Eilshemius by Carl Van Vechten, 43 of his work, and 5 of an exhibition. REELS 3829-3830: 98 letters to Dudensing concerning the exhibition and sale of paintings by John Kane; price lists and lists of paintings by Kane; a bill of sale and other legal documents; notes; and a scrapbook of clippings regarding exhibitions, 1925-1933. REEL 911: 25 letters from painter C. S. Price [Clayton S.]., 1940-1948, advising Dudensing on paintings sent, acknowledging receipt of payment, suggesting prices, and apologizing for not having work to send. REEL D22 (fr. 214-217): 2 letters from Henri Matisse, 1947 Feb. 4 and 1930 August 18, both written from Nice. In the first, Matisse thanks Dudensing for the presentation of the exhibition, and expresses his gratitude to Mrs. Dudensing as well. In the second, he announces his return from a long trip to Tahiti, Panama, Martinique, Guadaloupe and the U.S. He plans to return to Paris at the end of the month, and hopes he has a chance to meet up with Dudensing. |

| acquisition information | Donated 1958-1959 by Valentine Dudensing, except for the card file on NY59-5 which was returned after filming, and the Eilshemius material on reel D193 which was donated via Roy R. Neuberger, who had received it from Dudensing. Additional Eilshemius material unrelated to the Valentine Gallery appearing on reel D193 has been described and housed separately. Twelve letters appearing on reel 911 relating to the Detroit Institute of Art's interest in C.S. Price murals have also been described and housed separately. |
