acquisition informationMaterial on reels 350-368 and portions of unmicrofilmed material donated 1973-1979 by Jeanne and Paul Sylva, who purchased the gallery in 1973; material on reels NDR1-NDR4 lent and subsequently given in part (catalogs and announcements) for microfilming 1966 by Doll & Richards gallery. Remainder of the unmicrofilmed material donated by Wendell Zoehler, who worked for the firm from the late 1920s until the 1960s. According to Zoehler, most of the nineteenth century records were discarded, and periodically, especially when the firm moved, other records were also discarded. A daguerrotype of Gaetano Cardinal Bedini received with the records was on permanent loan to the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Aug. 29, 1979 and subsequently transferred to NPG on May 24, 2004.
